Amer Fort, located 13 km from Jaipur, was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592. It was the capital of the ruling Kachhawa clan. The City Palace was built when the city of Jaipur was being built, by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II who moved his court from Amer to Jaipur in 1727. It was the administrative seat of the Maharajas of Jaipur, till 1949. Several palaces, including the Hawa Mahal, pavilions, gardens and temples make the City Palace complex.
